Have you disabled write-behind caching on the W98 box?



For the comparison to be valid, you have to make the oranges and apples as similar as possible. :-)

The XP one is notebook, where I have instaled W98 before and it performed well at that time. The W98 one is 10 times slower but minitower. When run in local environment, the notebook behaves well.



I don't want to compare oranges with oranges by experiments like: 

loop

 reinstall the notebook, run the test, 

repeat

This was performed using client 4.91SP1. The test was repeated with 4.83sp2 with similar results.



Obviously not at all encouraging...
