Hi All,
newbie question # 1
I'm a newbie to OI. Just purchased OI 9.1 and have some questions that I generated going thru documentation, the website and just trying some things.
I will post each as a new topic, so that they can be treated individually.
TIA for helping with your ideas, suggestions and comments.
Running OI 9.1, on a win xp client. The server is a windows 2000 server box, running Unidata, and an application called Manage 2000.
Question 1
Are there any white papers that discuss the pluses and minuses, pros and cons of producing and distributing an OI application in a client/sever environment vs a web based environment?
One obvious difference to me is that in a c/s environment, I would have to distribute the application to each workstation, where in the web based environment the user would just need a browser.
thanx,
ron

Ron,
I don't believe there's a Revelation article on what you want. There is the Revelation Spin on the Web article, but that's more on how to OI works. My opinion is that from this perspective (desktop app verses browser app), that OI is no different from any other tool in what the advantages and disadvantages are.
I'd give my opinions here, but despite your helpful info (I like how you mention the server, OI version, desktop...more people should do that) there are loads of specific issues that would help make this decision and determine where the advantages are for you and your application.
I'd recommend just reading various papers on desktop applications and just replace OI with VB in your head.
