(AREV Specific) ==== === At 16 SEP 1999 01:10:44PM Alexander Weiss (aweiss@U.arizona.edu) wrote: === {{tag>"AREV Specific"}} Hi, I do not own AREV but somebody, who I will be unable to contact about it since they got somebody else to do it, sent me a datafile that was created in advanced revelations. Now the datafile is in text format and does appear to be comma delimited but there are some peculiarities as well that I do not understand. For instance, another character a y with an accent mark (pointing up and to the right) also is in the dataset. At first I thought it was garbage but I no longer think that's the case since there is some pattern to it. Anyways, if anybody could help me import this file it would be greatly appreciated. Are there any good programs that automatically do the importing for you? If you could reply email as well as on here that would be wonderful. You can use it as a delimiter to separate multiple values for a field from each other. Preferable, though, is to receive files from your source that are already normalized, since Excel cannot handle this situation well. ---- === At 17 SEP 1999 09:00AM Dale Walker wrote: === You might try to do a search and replace in notepad or some other editor ( I prefer wordperfects editor). Search for alt-253 (²) and replace with a comma or some other character. You might want to email it to me and I will do it for you. This mark may be a field delimiter or a record delimiter. I wouldn't know, but you should be able to determine this. First, load the file into Word and copy the y with the accent and then do a Ctrl H to do a search and replace. Paste that y and the accent mark in the first field and then enter whatever delimiter you may choose in the "Replace with" field.
