I have my screen set to 1024x768 too, and the Event Editor shows underscores just fine both in OI 3.61 and 2.61. See screen dumps http://129.177.24.170/X/ee361.jpg and http://129.177.24.170/X/ee261.jpg.



Could the reason perhaps be that you have chosen different fonts than standard in Control Panel - Screen - Appearance (or whatever it is in English)? (And have you chosen Small or Large Fonts with your 1024x768 setting?) I don't really believe these settings affect the Event Editor font, but one never knows.
