Worked extremely well. I capture output to a temp file and then send it to a network printer (nprint in Novell). Now DOS compatible laser printers that support PCL are becoming scarce. Windows only laser printers are now almost the only types available. My clients want to buy laser printers that have all sorts of function but just happen to not include dos compatibility. So, the problem is how to print these reports to Windows laser printers. I have looked at several programs that can take epson dot matrix reports and print them to win laser printers but no programs that will handle PCL. Any ideas? Yes, I know that moving to OI32 is the answer but that will happen in 1 to 2 years from now. I need a solution for the interim. ---- === At 15 SEP 2004 02:41AM Steve Smith wrote: === Buy a copy of OI32 and use it as a print job server. ---- === At 15 SEP 2004 08:28AM dsig@sigafoos.org wrote: === Yeah .. what Steve said. And depending on how heavy the reporting load is you could buy a couple of seats and task them off. How do I set up OI32 as a print server? Is this built in to OIPI or do I have to setup my own process? Does the server look for jobs to print in a print directory? or is there a more sophisticated way. Or does OIPI have a server function. (I guess I had better spend more time looking at OIPI functions, but I am trapped in AREV maint and incremental growth) Do I have to re-write all of the ascii PCL reports or can OIPI input PCL and print from there? This is starting to look good. Thanks ---- === At 15 SEP 2004 07:50PM Donald Bakke wrote: === Ted, There are a variety of ways to utilize OI as a print server for your AREV apps, and they don't all have to use the OIPI. I'm pressed for time right now so if others haven't responded I'll give you some ideas later. Alternatively, there are some utilities out there that allow DOS apps to print to Windows-only printers. I thought I had a a saved link to one of them but I can't find it now. I'll look for that as well. dbakke@srpcs.com SRP Computer Solutions, Inc. ---- === At 15 SEP 2004 08:54PM Ted Archibald wrote: === Thanks Don I have just found rawprint that says it will handle PCL ascii to win printers. I will be giving it a try shortly and see how flexible it is. I need a server that will service at least 6 novell network printers not some simple select a printer and then print to it. However, I want to give the OIPI print server method a try because I got to get there one day. Sooo, if anyone has some guidance then I would much appreciate it. ---- === At 16 SEP 2004 02:29AM support@sprezzatura.com wrote: === The idea is similar to our email/fax service for AREV. You write the items to be printed to a central file with a header record saying what you want doing with it. A process running in OI checks this file and if there are contents works out what to do from the header and does it. There is nothing built into OI at a higher level to do this, the toolset just makes it possible. support@sprezzatura.com The Sprezzatura Group Web Site World Leaders in all things RevSoft ---- === At 16 SEP 2004 01:14PM Ted Archibald wrote: === Hi anon from Sprezzatura Group Thanks for the guidance. Can your email/fax server be enhanced or adapted for network printers? Does this server run in OI and/or AREV? Cost?
