==== ARev 3.12 + LHService 1.5 + NetVista PC + Win2K= Loss of connection (Networking Products) ====

{{tag>"Networking Products"}}
A client of our recently installed a bunch of new IBM NetVista PC running Win2000.
Ever since then, the users running on those boxes have started reporting cases of our application experiencing FS401/FS402, W175... messages. Basically the application just 'goes south', on an intermittent basis.
As far as we can tell, the software connection between the Arev sessions on the new PCs and the server running LHService is getting 'lost'.
What we can't figure out is, why?
Nothing else in their environment has changed, the user running the older boxes are fine, so it's not a server/network problem and LH service is running fine.
We have plenty of users who run Win2000, including ourselves, so the OS is not the issue.
Any suggestions for this problem would be appreciated.

Thinking out aloud, consider the following
- increase the file handles,
- check the settings in the network card config are not set to "Auto" and are commensurate with other card setups on the network
- try a different network card (swap with a card from another box)
- check that the power save feature is disabled, in BIOS and Win2K

The settings are FILES=40, which is what I run on my desk. I will have the client increase it to 99.

I made the same suggestion just prior to posting my message, thanks for the confirmation.

I will pass that suggestion along.

They have already made those changes, we're waiting to see how much of an effect this has. It is not the final solution, the problem is still occurring.
Thanks for the suggestions

There are known issues with Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 and its support for named pipes. We have yet to fully investigate this issue. Named pipes are the mechanism which supports the NT/Windows 2000 service. The following links are provided for reference and may not be relevant in your particular situation.

Thanks for the reply.
It seems that there is a limit to the number of named pipes connections which are openned by a client/server.
I always thought that a single connection was created between the client and the server.
Are you saying that multiple pipes are openned?
If so, what is the basis for the pipes to be opened? 1 pipe=1 REV file?
