We are running AREV through a W2K citrix server for serveral remote offices. When invoicing is done through AREV some people at some sites get a Spool32 error. This is a sporadic problem. We have tried all the microsoft fixes for spool 32 errors with no luck. Does this have anything to do with arev itself?

Whenever there are printing problems from AREV under Windows, the best tactic is to try to shorten the report print duration, and to set up the operating system queues structure prior to entering AREV itself. The following suggestions are offered for your own trials, as independent suggestions:
- set the print queues ahead of calling AREV.EXE, then switch printers (if required) by using PDISK PDISK LPT1 or PDISK LPT2 etc. then PDISK PRN to flush the job to the queue
- increase the number of file handles available
- set AREV to yield time to Windows
- do not set AREV exclusive in foreground from its Windows shortcut
- set Idle sensitivity to 80% on the shortcut
- instead of using print statements, concatenate the output to an ASCII file using OSBWRITE to filename.txt, then ultimately
SUSPEND "COPY /B filename.txt LPT1 "
The fact that the problem is intermittent suggests timing issues across the network owing to congestion, or caching related issues. It also makes it difficult to offer a firm solution in this case. What common factor (if any) typifies the problem workstations?
