When I try installing OIPI into OI 3.7, I get this error, "Problem finding the OpenInsight directory 'C:\REVSOFT\OINSIGHT\' is not a valid OpenInsight directory." Any ideas?

Bob,
Well, if I install OIPI on my own computer and get that exact error message the reason is trivial: I've got my OpenInsight in a different directory than C:\REVSOFT\OINSIGHT\, which is where the OIPI installation by default assumes OpenInsight resides. I always have to use the Change Directory button in the second (?) dialog of the OIPI installation to direct the installation to the directory where my OpenInsight is.
If I wanted to avoid having to change the directory every time I install OIPI, I could have edited the DefaultDir= entry in the Setup section of the OIPI installation's SETUP.LST and SETUP1.LST files. I've done this in my clients' OIPI installation, to make it easier for them to install OIPI.
The possible reasons I can think of for your problem are:
- Just like me you've got your OpenInsight somewhere else than in the C:\REVSOFT\OINSIGHT\ directory, as described above
- You've got your OpenInsight not in C:\REVSOFT\OINSIGHT\ itself, but in a subdirectory of this directory (Perhaps you've got development and runtime versions of OpenInsight in separate subdirectories?)
- You've got your OpenInsight in C:\REVSOFT\OINSIGHT\, but your OpenInsight is damaged
- Looking in my notes I also see that one of my clients claims he got this message when he tried to install OIPI while he had the Office menu running. Removing the Office menu fixed the problem. Usually when the OIPI installation has a problem with a running program you get a different and more sensible error message. At least not one so obviously wrong.
I don't know exactly what the OIPI installation looks for when it decides if a directory is an OpenInsight directory or not. Perhaps the existence of OENGINE.EXE.

Bob, I've had similar problems, have you resolved yours yet?
