We are running AREV (v3.12 I think - the last release) on a Windows 2000 Server using the Revelation Windows 2000 Service (v2.1 I think - the latest release) configured to use the default transport (I believe named pipes) over TCP/IP. The workstations are all Windows 2000 Professional. Small, simple, single subnet, single DC network. When we migrated from Novell v3.11 about 6 months, we started having problems with the posting routines. Frequently, when a user went to post their daily entry (the application is accounting), the routine would blow up with various different errors, usually saying things like 'Fatal Error Reading \CLIENTS\WILMETTE\AR1\REV23009.LK...' or 'Invalid Frame Header During Read...' or a million other different errors. Understand that the tables were in perfect condition. If the user quit AREV, restored the data, got back into AREV and tried again it might suddenly go through smoothly. I put the service into 'Log Mode' and sent the logs to Revelation, but they couldn't see anything in the logs. Does anybody out there in the revelation world that uses thisd software on a regular basis recognize anything I've just described? I removed transaction control, but that didn't eliminate the problem. My users now have to leave AREV, back up their files at the DOS level and return to AREV before attempting to run any of the posting routines. ANY ANY ANY ideas or thoughts would be highly appreciated. Sometimes even a small suggestion is enought to spark a solution to a bigger problem. Again... much appreciation in advance for any help. ---- === At 13 DEC 2002 05:43PM Pat McNerthney wrote: === Dave, Do you have REVPARAM files with ServerOnly=1 entries in all of your directories with Linear Hash files? What are the workstation client OS's? - if they are Win 98 then disable write-behind caching (right click "My Computer" etc.). Check the number of workstation file handles is set high (=200) Also check the workstation connection using ping.exe repeatedly back to the server. This may identify intermittent network cards/cables as a cause. Disable power-saving features in the BIOS and video. Maybe the FILES=200 will fix this? Thanks for the help. ---- === At 16 DEC 2002 11:12AM Tim Marler wrote: === David, This should be REVPARAM with no extension. At least you'll know one way or the other! If you can't get in at all, try running the CLient Install again. It might be worth configuring the W2K Service to use just TCP/IP instead of both. It's pretty quick, to do and for performance (My mum says make sure you take a backup first). Tip: If the manual says "Change 'NamedPipeName' Registry Setting to 'None'" it actually means "Don't have this Registry entry at all" !!! I... 1- Stopped & deleted the service. 2- Renamed all the REVPARM files to REVPARAM 3- Changed the registy (tried this before - but put in "NONE" instead of deleting the key!) 4- Changed the arev network driver to ALL NETWORKS - THUNK 5- Added TCPIPPORT=777 to the REVPARAM file in the AREV31 directory 6- and finally... Reinstalled and started the new service I'll let everyone know how things go tomorrow. The help has been more than fantastic - ya'll deserve something real nice from Santa! ---- === At 17 DEC 2002 03:54AM Tim Marler wrote: === I'd like a nice TVR Cerbera and Kelly Brook please...
