==== How to intentionally create a GFE? (AREV Specific) ====

I know this may sound strange at first but does anyone know of a way to intentionally create a controlled GFE? Hopefully within a given table and a given frame? We are running Arev 3.12 on Novell 3.11.
The reason I'm asking is that I and my office mate are trying to train someone in the day to day operations of our Arev applications. We are currently at one of the US's Antarctic stations for the austrial summer. We will be leaving soon to go back to the States while the person we are training will stay here thru the austrail winter (March thru October, along with the rest of the small winterover crew). Since GFE's are getting to be rare, it's difficult to show her how to actually repair one.
We do have a limited ability from the States to log into the network here and do some things. But due to the slow connection and the 4 to 6 hour time difference (not to mention the international date line), it may take as much as a day for someone to help resolve the problem. Which time the users here may have to stop work until it's fixed or more data corruption may be occuring. So if I can get our person some hands on training on how to correct a GFE, it will be better for all conserned
I understand that this is a dangerous thing I'm asking for. My only intention is to use it as a training tool in a training account (as far away from Live data as I can get it).
If any one has any suggestions please let me know. I'll include my E-mail address.
Thank You,
Michael Slack

Actually, it's pretty easy, depending on what you really want done.
Go into DUMP, enter hex edit mode, and change some of the file header information. I used to do this all the time, believe it or not. Well, FIXLH had to get tested somehow.....
TB #29 has all the information you need.

DUMP will allow you to change any part of a file frame to anything you desire (Ctrl E Option - see Help).
Howvever, fixing a GFE when you know what is wrong is a far different exercise than when you dont know what has been lost. There will always be those GFE's where data recovery is impossible (eg. file frame 1 has turned into porridge), other than by restoration of backup and roll forward reprocessing.
