I have seen several topics related to SP4 on NT 4.0 causing lockup problems in AREV or any DOS session on NT. We are experiencing the same problems with our clients. My understanding is SP4 is required for Y2K compliance so does anyone have a solution or found the miracle combination of SP4 hot fixes. RTI needs to work with Microsoft to resolve this issue or basically the NT market is gone for AREV applications.

Wayne, there have been 4 service packs to date, and none are perfect. It may not be in their interest to have it perfect. That way, the entire world has to decommission their DOS apps and move to Microsoft SQL server, the only halfway decent database solution on NT. That's where the dollars lie for revenue, unsurprisingly.
SP3 is the one I see in use most often.
Novell has virtually none of these problems...the ones they do have are brought about by 32-bit Windows. Unsurprisingly.
Revelation have had to drill down to the transport layer (NLM uses
IPX (?), NT service uses named pipes (?)) to ensure that the performance remains OK. That way the NOS interferes less with the application's file I/O stream.

I am running Arev 2.12 on a strict NT4 with SP4 system. All of my client machines (80 of them) are Windows 98. The only problem I have had to date is a loss in connection over my router to my file server. This has happend twice in the last 9 months. Simple fix by turning down the server. I am running two seperate Arev systems, one on each side of the Router. All the working files are in one location.

We have the same problem on a 16 workstation system NT sp4 with win98 workstations. We think it may be a timing problem so we are running the workstations at 10mhz v. 100 and that helped half the
workstations running in the same building as the server. The other half of the workstations are connected by fiber and are still having lockups. When it happens one workstation goes first then all in the same building go. It appears to be a dos problem because we get the dos message "Fatal error reading drive .... etc. abort retry fail". We cannot recover by keying 'R' and have to kill the dos session and restart the Arev app. Other programs in windows are not affected or recover without locking. We have set the dos properties to expanded memory=4096, extended memory=none, background processing=not checked (enabled), and idle sensitivity to near low. Any other ideas would be appreciated.
