==== NLM 1.5a to Windows 2000 2.1 Service (Networking Products) ====

I was hoping for some advice from the community here at revelation regarding other users experiences moving their Advanced Revelation application from a Novell File Server to a Windows 2000 Server.
The application currently runs off a Netware 3.12 server, running the NLM 1.5a, with approximately 20 or fewer clients connecting. We run large batch jobs, and have found issues when client workstations are not optimally configured for Expanded Memory.
Our initial approach is to implement is to configure a Windows 2000 Server running Revelation Windows 2000 2.1 Service, and upgrade the application driver from NLM 1.5a to All Network Drivers 2.1. One of the concerns is the impact in performance that may be associated with this move. The following knowledgebase document mentions a performance degradation when moving from the NLM to the Windows 2000 2.1 Service.

I was hoping that other users could provide their experiences.
Thanks in advance!

We moved a large client from netware to 2K server - but used the NT service, not the low-end all networks driver (which fails pretty much on anything but a couple of windows for workgroups machines, it seems). Memory configuration is a desktop problem and won't change at all with a server change.
You will get much less control on print jobs (font resets when windows feels like it, mixed jobs if print programs pause too long, etc) than you have with novell.

Hi Karen,
Thanks for the info! One of the areas I hadn't consider was the impact in printing. Did you deploy the 2.1 service? And according to the documentation both Windows 2000 and XP should be able to connect to this service. Did you have any issues with performance?

One of my clients switched from Netware 3.x to Server 2003 with the NT service. Performance is not an issue.

No, performance was not an issue - and since a normal upgrade involves bigger, faster servers, it increased somewhat (as was expected), although not by leaps and bounds. Clients included various versions of windows (including xp) and citrix servers.
Upgrading DOS machines to windows will take a performance hit and some XP machines are incredibly slow -- but this is client based and independent of the server used (I have one dual xeon machine that is so slow with AREV that it is useless ... it can take 5 minutes or more just to log in).
