This is a new one for me.
Client calls with an Arev 3.12 system. He's been running it on a Win95 system - MS networking. No Lan pack but he says he only runs it on a single PC.
Anyway, been running fine for a while. Yesterday, he gets the windows critical error:
"This program has performed an illegal operation and will be terminated" yatta yatta
"The program encountered a General Protection Exception"
Detail button reveals:
Fault Location 1F24:CD5A
Interupts in Service: none
Checked all the usual stuff. Revboot, etc.
He says he gets the same error on the laptop where he lap linked the program from a working PC system - which he Laplinks to the network system. HHhhmmmm.
Tried rebooting to DOS and running only to get the logo display before it hangs up without a wimper.
New one for me. Anybody got a clue?
thanks
Paul

Sounds like this guy runs it on more than a single PC. There's the network and the laptop and this workstation and the working PC workstation. Not bad, 4 workstations, one executable, no lan pack and he's complaining about problems?
If I were you, I'd blame it that General Protection guy. It's obviously his fault. You could also say that Revelation Technologies placed anti-piracy code in the executable and they'd be more than happy to help with the purchase of the minimum of 3 additional executables he's legally required to purchase.
Sorry, but Windows itself says no interruption in service, so I'm sure the system is running without any interuptions.

Sure, always blame General Protection on allegations alone. My experience has always shown that Major Screwup is the culprit, even though Colonel Kludge often is an accomplice in these matters.

Licensing: Licensing is an issue with me, not Revelations. I purchased a global license for unlimited distribution. I license the software to the specific unit of government purchasing my application based on the size of the unit (number of records). It's a royal pain in the clients' rear to try and coordinate several copies of the application on non-networked PC's. Besides, this client made several purchases for different units is merely transfering the main subdirectory over to troubled pc's.
Anyway. Was there anything usefull in your message (re: interupts) or was this just an opportunity to get the traffic up on the Internet?

I had the same problem, but different memory address, when trying to "DUMP" a file from TCL. After a little investigation, I found unchecking the "Scan a file when Opened' box inside Norton's Antivirus for Win95 - "Auto-protect" removed the GPE.
