One way would be to perform a full installation of say, OI 3.72, on the same drive.  Then perform an APPBACKUP on the older installation of OpenInsight.  Restore the APPBACKUP into OI 3.72.  Swap path locations of the OI installations so that the 'upgraded' OI 3.72 application will have the same directory structure/path as the OI 3.2 installation had.  



I've known people to do it this way as it tends to cause them less upgrading problems this way, though I don't have any personal experience with doing so on large applications.
