==== NLM 1.12 not working for a PC running Novell client32 2.5 (AREV Specific) ====

Most of our customers are running Arev 3.12 off of a Novell 3.12 server using the NLM 1.12 with Novell client32 2.2 on Windows 95.
We now have a customer that is set up differently. The difference is that she is using Novell client32 2.5. I noticed that there have been difficulties with using version 2.5, but our problem stems that when she logs into Arev the error message that "the NLM does not have control of the voc file" comes up even though the TSR is loading successfully. I tried mapping the drive from DOS instead of windows per the Knowledgebase white paper, but it did not correct the problem. I am not sure if the problems others are experiencing with the client32 2.5 are related to my problem. If anyone has any suggestions, workarounds, or reasons why it won't work I would greatly appreciate it.

Does the error change if you set the RevParam file?

I am not sure what you mean by change the file. The NLM is running fine for the users that are still using the client32 2.2, but we have one user now but much more to come that are using the new client, and she has the error of the NLM not being in control of the files. I saw from other messages that there currently is a problem with using client32 2.5 and above. I was not sure if this was related to the problem I am having and if it is, is there a fix yet? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Didn't say change the file, said create a RevParam file and see if the error changes. Since you make it as far into the system to get a message, the system is allowing you entry. Assuming the message is correctly being displayed, you shouldn't have a RevParam file. Creating one will give an error message on logon that should help in debugging.
If you do have a RevParam file, then you've hit an interesting situation, in that the NLM is being recognized, but still not being used. Can't say I have a good answer to that one, unless you're storing off file handles somewhere.

We are using an image of the attached tables in login. We have been doing it that way for several years. The image works okay for the other users just not the new one. Other than creating a revparam file are there any other suggestions you could make that I might be able to try.

Not really, not without some extra info, like is this an entire site, or just a machine, and all the OS info and things like that.

First of all thank you for all your help. I was wondering do you think that the problems that our customer is having may be fixed if we were to get the upgrade to 1.5? Also do you know if Revelation Technologies has made any headway with the problem others have described from running the client32 v2.5? Thanks again for your help.

Well, the changes and new features don't mention anything that will be of great help with ARev, though it would definitely be benificial with OI. However, I don't know anyone who has had issues with it, and it can't really hurt to be on the latest version of this stuff.
As for the client version, this will probably be fixed in the next release of the Novell client. For now, the simple fix for these versions is just not using the MAP ROOT command. Various versions of clients have had difficulty dealing with mappings in across multiple DOS sessions, so I expect Novell to fix this one pretty soon.
