==== Printing Lost on XP (AREV Specific) ====

{{tag>"AREV Specific"}}
I just hooked up an old HP 4L to my XP PC at home as I had to to some print tests.
When I try and print anything from Arev - it disappears into oblivion
Nothing lights up on the printer, the driver shows no sign of anyhting passing through. Where does it go?
If I PDisk it to afile.txt and then
Type afile.txt ] lpt1
It prints fine.
It is obviously something in my settings - but what?
SETPrinter=1 which is a HP LaserJet on LPT1
I've eve set up a Generic text printer as the default windows printer - but still no joy.
Lpt1 is set as a standard port (not using interrupts - tried with interrupts as well)
Any suggestions appreciated
Regards
Claude

How did yo know I had an Aiden working for me?
Anyway thanks for the link, but as my home PC is not on any network (and no, BT can't provide ADSL yet) and the printer is directly connected to Lpt1, using a Net Use is not possible.
Any other ideas?
Thanks
Claude

Sprezz knows all things Rev related :)
Anyway, did you check the ARev Workstation printer settings?
Also I recall there was something concerning the International settings and printing. I think setting the language sets to null solved the problem. I believe it was Curt Putnum that posted this "fix".
Other than that try fiddling with the LPT1 settings in BIOS.

Hi Warren
What ARev Workstation printer settings are you referring to? I've been on all the Windows setting I can find.
I even tried running out of a batch file - no joy

I've searched the forum - can't find anything - or am I just useless in searching. NB. I honestly do search even before I ask a question. In this case I can't seem to find anything relevant.
I mean, it is quite interesting
I can shell out to DOS
Type filename.txt ] lpt1
the file prints fine.
If I stay in that same shell
CD\Arev
Run the arev app
It loses all printing
The BIOS says it is a standard printer port (not ECP or EPP)
I'm baffled
Still open for more suggestions

Thanks Warren,
But this is one of the first area I go to configure the printers.
Printer is Defined as HP_LASERJET
The port is LPT1
It is the first printer and I can select it - still doesn't print.

Try setting it to "" (null).
I don't remember what the "fix" was. It could be when upgrading from earlier versions of ARev these would be null and not print or maybe you had to set them to null, logout, and reset them.
