If I do a SUSPEND (from the TCL line) then do a MOVE from the DOS command line it exectes the WINDOWS MOVE program. I have searched and can't find the COMPUTER TYME MOVE program. The COMPUTER TYME WEB site says MOVE is part of a DOS TOOL BOX. Marc Perkel (the author) said he didn't have a clue. Does any body know what SUSPEND hands off to ? OR any suggestions how to track down this bandit. Check the advanced program settings for your ARev desktop icon and make sure that "Prevent MS-DOS-based programs from detecting Windows" is not checked. I've seen this type of behavior when the above was checked. This setting may not be available depending on which version of Windows you are using. When you do the SUSPEND command to a DOS prompt type "SET" and see what the path is set to. ---- === At 26 JAN 2005 03:35PM Richard Emerson wrote: === Wow! That works great. Will play with later. Did a SET. Checked COMSPEC and COMMAND.COM. All were original. That's what confused me. Searched drives for MOVE.EXE didn't find any non standard. So now I'm really confused. Going to install AREV on stripped down and see if I can chip away at it. PS Wing gave me a good tip so I'm out of the woods, but would like to know what the difference in AREV.EXE between SUSPENT MOVE and SUSPEND. Thanks for all the help Rich ---- === At 27 JAN 2005 03:10AM Warren Auyong wrote: === Find all _DEFAULT.PIF files and check the properties on those. Pay attention to the "START IN" directory settings and advanced settings for the CONFIG and AUTOEXEC files. Right click on the "My Computer" icon and check the path settings in advanced environment settings. Compare these to what's in the config.nt/autoexec.nt or custom autoexec/config files specified in either the _default.pifs or shortcuts used to call ARev. At some point MOVE became an internal command as opposed to being a separate MOVE.EXE/COM. So either there is an external MOVE program, command/cmd is being replaced or a DOS enhancer program is being loaded which substitutes or aliases some DOS commands with it's own. The VER command should reveal the latter. From the start button run COMMAND and then type VER in the command window. Do the same from running CMD. Run AREV from the COMMAND and CMD windows (change to the drive and directory where arev.exe is and type "AREV"). Do the VER through SUSPEND VER and SUSPEND -] command window VER. You might have to do SUSPEND VER ] ver.txt and find and edit the ver.txt file if the "DOS" windows closes before you can read the results from the VER command. This would should also reveal if the COMMAND/CMD executables have been replaced. If it is an external command it should be somewhere in the executable PATH setting in the environment. This is set in the advanced environment properties of my computer, the config/autoexec files, bat /cmd files. It can also be set through a shell command in a program such as the PC and SUSPEND commands in ARev. If you are on a Novell network these can be further modified and extended by Novell system and user specific login commands.
