I have two DOS programs running (AREV 3.1, and Cyma) at the same time on a Pentium 200MMX running Win95b. Our network OS is Novell 4.11 and we use 3com 10/100 PCI cards with 20 users. My problem is that at times our workstations slow down to 10% of normal speed. This usually happens in the afternoon. Any Ideas?

Check the fileserver console to see who is operating at that time.

Are users printing large jobs or running large selects?

Are there CRC errors present in the monitor program - this means cabling.

Is a backup or virus scan running at that time?

Does air conditioning or plant equipment, or do cleaners with other devices operate at that time?

Does the lunchtime internet traffic slow things down?

Do your staff take their workstations (& cabling) to lunch?

Tim -

Are you using any of the Revelation Network Products, such as the NPP or NLM? If you have 20 users on ARev, I would suggest that you look into using one of the above products if you are not doing so already.

The "Product Info" section of our webpage has documentation on our Network Products Suite which you can take a look at.

In addition, are most of the ARev users online during the afternoon? Without the NLM you can expect to experience a greater decrease in performance over the network as more users logon.

Steve,

The problem seems to come from these two DOS programms running at once on the same machine. One is Arev and the other is CYMA. We have purchased newer 350 MHz PC's in an effort to give more mustle to work with ant the new PC's are worse than the older one.

I thought it was something in the setup for each shortcut.

Tim :)
