Robert -

I assume you are using Windows NT as a server for your application. While you will need to create a REVPARAM file (which I will explain how to do in a bit), the error is a bit more complicated.

What you need to do is add a SYSTEM user on your WinNT server that has full rights to all files in the Arev directory. Make sure that the user applies the changes to all of the files and subdirectories under the Arev directory. If you need additional help in setting up a system user, instructions can be found here.

After you have created the system user you will need to create the REVPARAM file. Additional information concerning this file can be found in the installation guide of your network product.

Basically what you need to do is this - you need to create a file named "REVPARAM". This file cannot have an extention. The file should contain one line that says:

      SERVERONLY=1

Save this file to the directory that contains AREV.EXE. You will also have to put this file in any/all directories that contain Linear Hash data (.LK and .OV files).

Hope this helps.

I have completed the above instructions to the letter.

Following Config:

NT4 SP4 Server, NT4 SP4 Workstation, TCP/IP

System User has Full Control on the Parent directory and all Sub directories

Revparam Serveronly=1 in all directories containing *.lk & *.ov files

NT Service is Started and the application has the All Networks Driver 1.5 installed.

However the Linear Hash service is still generating Event 30000, in the nt event log.

Error 1030.

Can you offer any further assistance.

Just to clarify - the user, called 'SYSTEM', needs to be created on the NT Server? It does not exist on NT by default but needs to be created for the NT Service to work properly? Using the 'Administrator' user is not sufficient?

The documentation refers to 'the SYSTEM user', implying (to a non-NT person like me) that it should already be there. I haven't found such a user and so assumed that the administrator user, which has all supervisory right, is sufficient. Is this not true?

Thanks,

Matt.

The SYSTEM user isn't really a user, like Administrator or AaronK or something else placed in the User Manager window, with a password and groups and domain rights and everything thing else. It's the actual NT system, or NT itself. When you set privilges and rights for a file or directory, you will find the SYSTEM user in there. It has its own special icon next to it, looking something like a computer chip.
