Is it possible to drag and drop an object(such as a pdf file) into an Arev screen.

Sorry, I meant OI.
Sorry. I mean to say OI.
Drag and drop??? Not sure how to do that.
Although… you could "OLE" an Adobe document to an OI form. Is that what you want to do?
Who knows what features lurk in the heart of 8.0….
The Grand Wizard, Carl Pates from Sprezzatura, gave a talk about this same subject at the last OI Conference. It was WAY cool and WAY too many bits flying around for a old guy like me.
If you want just OI to OI you can probably contact Sprezz and see if they are doing anything with it ..
It would be nice if the lurking feature would also support drag and drop from a scanner (text and graphics, of course, depending on the object type).
Too bad I missed Carl's lecture at the last conference. Sound interesting. I will review the lectures on the CD. Thanks
A client of mine has a scanning/document retrieval system using Arev. They are able to retrieve pdf document(s) for a certain file. In order to do this, the Pdf file name must be entered into a field in the database manually, so the program will know which file to open.. My client asked me the other day, if he upgrade to OI, would he be able to drag and drop an document in an OI screen so they will not to enter the file name manually to eliminate keying errors and save time.
What about a system that would scan the document, read a barcode off the document, automatically name the file, and queue the pdf file to be automatically indexed by the OI system, so that the web application will allow users to access the documents within seconds.
Actually we do something similar to this using Arev and a scanrouter software . We print a header page with a file number on top to use as a header and attach it to our documents. This is then scanned and OCR processed. The Pdf file produced, uses the file number as the file name with a pdf extension and saved, which then can be called from Arev on the fly.
Often we will recieve atttachments via email or captured from the fax server. Presently we will have to manually rename the file to match that of the file. This works fine but is open to user mistakes.
Mike,
The suspense is killing me…
When is 8.0 lurking in our neighborhood?
