We are running OI 3.7 on NT workstations using the NLm 1.2 to interface with Novell 4.11 (latest Novell client). All the workstations return correct station numbers, except two Dell machines which return identical garbage. Any ideas?
Thanks

First of all, what network cards are you using in your workstations? Are the Dell?s using the different cards and if so what are they? Also are the two Dell?s that are giving you the garbage station numbers the only Dell?s on your system?
Bob,
The station ID, when using the NLMs is designated by the Network Card on the PC, but assigned by NOVELL, at random.
We have had a couple of similar cases, regarding the Station ID, appearing as garbage/unreadable. It has been noticed that this problem is taking place with NOVELL 4.0 or higher. This specific incident has occured with computers of different brands using different network cards so its pretty much at random.
An e-mail has been directed to the NOVELL tech. support site and as soon as a reply is received with any suggestions or solutions, it will be posted on the Revelation Website (Online Discussion).
In the mean time lets try to narrow it down by checking the configurations of the machines, this problem is taking place, as in all cases only a handful of PCs exhibited this and the others were running just fine.
The cards we are using in the Dell machines are Intel EtherExpress Pros. These are the only Dell machines on our network and the only machines using these cards. One Dell machine is using an older version of the netware client for NT while the other is using the latest.
Arev returns correct Station identifiers while OI does not. Both are using the NLM.
Each machine returns similar but not exactly the same garbage.

Bob,
Could you send me an example of the station identifiers that are returned by AREV and OI? So I have a better idea of what they look like. In the meantime, try installing a different network card in one of the Dell's, just to rule them out as the cause.ermisek@revelation.com
An example in Arev is the usual 4 digit * 12 digit string eg. 1234*0023CD23ZU56
In OI - ",!ghjt" or the same thing starting with the one quarter symbol
This is not exact as I'm not back there till Monday. We will try another network card.
Thanks
Bob Watson
I have tested another card (a PCI card as opposed the original ISA card) and I still get exactly the same garbage. It did cure some other problems with Slists VBOCX control though!
Any further progree on this issue and indeed on the issue of being unable to use the latest Novell Client with AREV 3.11?
Thanks
