Does anyone have a routine which can fax directly from
AREV? I can produce the DCX files OK, I'm interested
in the fax transmission software to use.
TIA
Steve
Steve,
GoldFax fax server software is a valid alternative.
We have just completed trials and have successfully
linked our AREV V3.12 app to this package.
It runs under Microsoft Windows NT Server or UNIX.
We have used the NT version and are more than happy with it's broad
based capabilities.
This all came about due to the use by Penguin Books reported earlier.
Search on either GoldFax or Penguin to find details in this knowledgebase.

Steve,
Only realised later that you are in Australia.
We are able to provide extended assistance as a result of that!

Thanks Kevin,
I'll be in touch in the near future,

Steve,
What do you mean about "fax directly"?? I have several customers who call up an Arev fax window, type a fax, and the post save process writes a record to a queue file ,that another dedicated Arev PC on the network reads, then writes a text file which is picked up be Bitfax and sent. I'd be happy to let you have the routines…

I am also in the process of trying to get our AREV program to fax. A good solution seems to be a program called HydraFax from a company in California. It can handle DOS and Windows faxing on almost all networks. It works by having AREV save your file to a common network directory which HydraFax, running on a dedicated or little used machine with a modem attached, checks every 5 seconds or so. Upon finding a file it faxes it out and can save it for historical purposes. Their site is www.wordcraft.com. I haven't had the time yet to get prices or try it out yet but it looks good. They have a PDF manual you can download to read.
My biggest problem has been finding a good DOS capable program and they said their interface works. Good Luck. If you come across any other solutions, please email to help my search.

Hi Jonathan,
I mean that I have created a fax in *.DCX format
(eg. MYFAX.DCX) and I want to be able to
PHONE.NUMBER=12345657'
PERFORM "SUSPEND FAXAFILE.EXE MYFAX.DCX ":PHONE.NUMBER
I guess I'm looking for FAXAFILE.EXE to run with
a "generic" faxmodem.
Thanks for your offer re sending programs etc.
Send away !
BTW I'm using Windows 95, AREV 3.12

Linda or Mona once did a really cool little thing with a Castille fax server and MFSSEAL from Novell, but this was in 92 or so. Worked like a champ, fax through e-mail.
I had a similar requirement a few years ago. I found a chap in oz who had used a free demonstration program, which was part of Async Professional from TurboPower Software.
The demo programme worked well in a networked environment, and I see no reason why it should not work standalone, as you describe. Download from:-

It comes with lots of documentation, and some source code. Best of all it can be tried free.
