We had a peer to peer system using Windows98 with 4 workstations which worked for 10 years with no issues. We moved to 4 new XP Pro workstations (which could make expanded memory) and now we are getting GFEs. We are have now move the application to a workstation but still mapping drive G: to the local drive with all the other workstations powered off and we still receive GFEs.
Most likely issue is not disabling Write Behind Cacheing on your local drives. ALL OF THEM. :)

And if it is a "hard" GFE (actual data corruption on disk) it's not going to go away until the file is repaired, deleted or replaced.
Thanks, but the cache has been turned off for over a week.
They were confirmed GFEs, we have restored or repaired the damaged files each time.
Twice the mapping was lost to the local drive, which accounted for the damage but the other times the mapping was not lost. If on the local drive the user cannot get through one day without an error.
