NT 4.x network, Windows 3.x workstations, AREV 3.12 application, no NT service, NPP is 1.3.
Instead of starting the application with the volume name they are using the command 'AREV username /x m4096', but the username is the same for everyone starting the application. So basically, they have multiple instances of the application with the same user. Is this a problem? Are there any restrictions with AREV regarding the number of times a user may startup an application with their user profile?
This is strictly an AREV user, not a network user. All the users log into the network with their own login names/passwords, but the AREV app is started with just one AREV user name that they have set up. It's not SYSPROG, QUSER or the application volume name.
They are experiencing regular fatal errors in index files, and I have tracked down several configuration descrepancies, but was wondering if this may also impact the situation. Also, any opinions on the lack of NT Service are welcome.
Thanks in advance for any input.
No worries - log every one in with the same user name.
Indexing GFEs are normally a sign of locking not working correctly. Have you verified that locking works? Pull the same record up in the editor on two machines and see they lock. Try the same with record 0 in the !file you are having problems with.
