LH Service Problems (AREV Specific)

At 12 SEP 2005 11:47:46AM Chris Cordera wrote:

(Sorry for double posting but got no reponse from the Network section)

Background:

1) For a site using the LH service with Arev 2.12, we are getting events on the server running the LH Service as follows:

Event 30000

"LHOpenSession call failed returning LH error number 1022…maximum number of licensed users exceeded"

This occurs when we are well under our Arev license count.

2)I noticed that we have excessive Name Pipe sessions opened so I changed the transport config from Named Pipes to TCP. All machines are either Win2k or XP. I followed all the steps for this procedure as outlined in the installation manual. However when running 'WHO' the driver info displays "All Networks Drv. v2.1.0.0" with no reference to THUNK.

3) On the LH server, under Open Files I still see multiple references to Pipe\HydraLSPipeI coming from the Citrix machines.

1) Any idea why I am getting "Too many users errors"?

2) Is there a problem with my conversion to the THUNK driver or is that just a display bug?

3) Are these pipes related to the LH service?

Thanks for an help!

If this Novell OS, check too see if you are over your Novell license count.

I have seen the over Arev license due to Novell license seats being exceeded. As I recall, it has something to do with Novell allowing the over-limit user to logon with only partial rights.

I think I recall reading this message can come up if certain CD hardware is on the network.

Chris,

I have also seen "too many user" errors when a user is attahced to multiple NetWare servers. If the user table on one server is full, even if it is not the ARev server, it can return the "too many users" error.

This is not in a Netware environment. It is the LH Service running on a Win2k server.

We just purchased 2 more LanPacks and still get the errors.

To add insult to injury, after purchasing the 2 LanPacks and the LH service our repsonse from Revelation Software was that they 'don't really support the product anymore'. Even more odd since I thought OpenInsight used both products.

Chris,

Just to clarify, you are using LH Service on Win2000 Server - is that the v2.1 Service or the earlier 1.5 version?

Also what client O/S?; what NIC protocol? - is that the same on all machines?

Do you have client Config.sys (or equiv) setting file handles=200?

Chris,

I am not sure what is not supported about your setup, but I can tell you that the All Networks Thunk is what is shown in the WHO screen in Arev.

Based on what you are seeing, I would suggest you:

Confirm the 2.1 Service is installed on the Server

Confirm that the settings in the Registry for the 2.1 Service are specifying the TcpIp only

Confirm that you have chosen the All Networks Thunk Driver

Confirm that the Revparam file in the main Arev directory is set up properly

Start with that. What version of Arev are you running? When did you purchase the 2.1 Service?

Chris - The first line in Kevin's response means that "ALL NETWORKS THUNK" is what showns in Arev's WHO screen when it is the installed driver.
