Introduction

This Quick Start Guide is designed to let you start using SQL-based data in an OpenInsight application and using any or all of OpenInsight’s tools with that SQL-based data.

There a two steps to using SQL data with OpenInsight:

  1. Define a connection to a data source
  2. Define a dataset for a connection

After these two steps have been completed, there is also a SQL Connection Configuration form where the user can view and modify the settings after the wizards have been completed.

Once these two steps have been followed, OpenInsight will treat the SQL data as if it is native OpenInsight data. Anything that you can do with OpenInsight’s linear hash data can be done with the SQL data.

For the purposes of this Quick Start Guide we will be using Microsoft’s SQL Server 2012, and using the AdventureWorks2014 sample database. A script for creating a small sample SQL database called PUBS is included at the back of this guide.
