Created at 15 DEC 1999 03:59PM
SYMPTOM
Revelation Software has experienced connectivity problems resulting in Server communication errors with Windows NT Server 4.0 and the Client with Service Pack 6 or Service Pack 6a installed with the Revelation Windows 2000 Service (formerly called the Revelation NT Service).
If running NT Server 4.0 (regardless of the Service Pack) and connecting to the Server from a Windows NT Workstation with Service Pack 6 and/or 6a installed, you will experience an FS1006 "Unable to access Linear Hash files" error with both OpenInsight and Advanced Revelation applications.
WORKAROUND
Revelation has conducted Windows 2000 Service benchmark testing on Windows NT Server 4.0 with Service Pack 5 and Service Pack 6 along with Client Service Packs 5 and Service Pack 6, with our Advanced Revelation and OpenInsight applications. Our results are as follows:
Server with Windows NT 4.0 and Service Pack 5, Client with Service Pack 5 - Works as expected
Server with Windows NT 4.0 and Service Pack 6, Client with Service Pack 5 - Works as expected
Server with Windows NT 4.0 and Service Pack 5, Client with Service Pack 6 - Errors
Server with Windows NT 4.0 and Service Pack 6, Client with Service Pack 6 - Errors
For Windows NT Server 4.0, we recommend that you utilize Windows NT Client Service Pack 5 or less. To obtain Microsoft Service Packs, go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/servicepacks
SOLUTION
Revelation Software has been able to replicate the problem, and a report has been submitted to Microsoft. Microsoft has provided us with the following information: "We will consider all reproducible bug reports and work on documenting them in the Microsoft Knowledge Base. However, we are not able to guarantee that any one problem will be resolved in any specific version of a Microsoft product." Revelation will provide status updates as they become available.
