Connectivity Issue: Novell 5.0 Support Pack 4/Novell 5.1 and the Revelation NLM 5.0 (Network Compatibility)
Created at 08 MAY 2000 05:01PM
SYMPTOM
Revelation Software has experienced connectivity problems resulting in server communication errors with Novell 5.0 Support Pack (SP) 4 and Novell 5.1.
If using the Novell 5.0 SP4 or Novell 5.1, Revelation NLM 5.0 users experienced FS477 and/or FS472 error(s) with Advanced Revelation and/orOpenInsight.
ISSUE
The Revelation NLM code makes a call to the server to obtain the network address of the Workstation that is attempting to connect to the server. This call, getInternetAddress, a Novell API call, is used to verify the IPX network and node are in fact identical. This is a Revelation NLM security check; a failure in this verification process would return the FS472 and/or FS477 error(s).
STATUS
Novell has verified that the getInternetAddress call was broken in Novell 5.0 SP4 and subsequent releases (i.e., Novell 5.1). Revelation has received a beta copy of the fix to the CLIB.NLM that addresses the getInternetAddress call problem. Revelation testing has determined that it resolves the connectivity issue.
PERMANENT SOLUTION (updated June 6, 2000)
Novell has informed Revelation Software that the updated CLIB is now available in a Support Pack for NetWare 5.0 and 5.1. Netware 5.0 Support Pack 5 and NetWare 5.1 Support Pack 1 with the updated CLIB.NLM are available for download at SUPPORT.NOVELL.COM. Use the File Finder link and type NW5SP5.EXE (Netware 5.0 SP5) or d51sp1.exe-Domestic 128 bit, e51sp1.exe-Export 56 bit (Netware 5.1 SP1) for the filename. The Novell incident number is 2366108.
Revelation would like to extend its appreciation to the community for the support they have extended to us in getting this issue resolved with Novell.
