MetaFrame - CPU Utilization and Response Time (AREV Specific)

We are in the process of setting up a new remote access platform using MetaFrame. MetaFrame is running on NT 4.0 and connecting to a Novell 3.12 server hosting AREV.
1) With a single user logged in our CPU Utilization on the NT box is resting at 100% and doesn't drop. Any suggestions on how reduce this?
2) Response time is incredibly slow using this method. Any suggestions on how to speed it up?
Any suggestions on either topic or other known bugs would be a great help. Thanks!!!
Any suggestions

Well - depends on the version of AREV. Which version are you at?

What you describe also occured with Citrix Winframe and required a specific patch from Citrix. The performance of AREV under Winframe has been great for me. The following is the text from Citrix's Website regarding the Winframe issue.
"The default DOS keyboard polling detection does not prevent Advanced Revelation 3.1 for DOS from trying to use all the available CPU in the system. Before running Advanced Revelation, run AREVFIX in the DOS window in which you will run Advanced Revelation. AREVFIX is a TSR that prevents Advanced Revelation from using all the CPU in the system. An Advanced Revelation .PIF file can be set up to point to a custom AUTOEXEC.NT file that runs AREVFIX before running Advanced Revelation so that a Windows icon can be used."

We're running Arev 3.02. Any ideas?

Yes,
Arev 3.12 is better, it has a switch in it "Yield time to Windows" which if it is on, improves Winframe performance. Also make sure you are on Winframe 1.7. There is something about the NLM that adds to the problems here though. Perhaps someone else can chip in on that one. I had a site that changed from Netware to NT. Their perormance on the LAN went down, but their performanceon the Winframe shot up, and the CPU utilization went way down. Wierd eh?

You need some sort of keyboard polling tamer. AREVFIX.COM, which supposedly ships with Citrix should work. If you don't have a copy, contact Citrix for more information.
An Ensemble user running Citrix seems to like a shareware program called Tame. Don't know anything about it though. [url=mailto:akaplan@sprezzatura.com]Aaron Kaplan
