Dictionary Data Types (OpenInsight Specific)

I have just noticed in the table builder that I have integer and dollar fields as varchar data types.
This appears to be from a dict conversion routine I've got to run against an Arev database.
What difference does this make to any processing - say forms. Would it affect the recalcs of symbolics in edittable or anything like that.

No difference at all. Datatypes are a hangover from bonding when you needed to enforce typing when writing to foreign environments.

In fact, if you're not careful you can get yourself into a real mess if you're not careful. If you have data-typing that doesn't match the ICONV spec and the data is wrong, you may not be able to save the element. This is bizarre when it is in a data table on a form.

Barry-
If you use the Revelation Reporter, data typing is REAL important because functions like totalling, averaging, and summing won't work on columns with incorrect data types.

This should only apply if domain level checking is invoked. (Normally if you use SQL against the table). We always just use VarChar and then whatever ICONVs are necessary and we never have problems.
