I have to get data from Revelation. How?

- The command to start the program is REV.EXE

- The splash screen reads: REVELATION (TM) Operating Environment

Any help is appreciated.

On the "Utilities" disk for revelation there was a program called 'porter'. You can use this export data from Revelation.

Do you have this disk?

From your message it does not sound as if you are familiar with the application you are running from Revelation. Do you know how to log into your application? Do you know how to get to TCL? Is your system a runtime only or a full system including complier, etc.?

There are number of ways to get your data DSig's suggestion of using PORTER being one of them. It depends on what you mean by "getting the data out of Revelation." PORTER (and some other simlier methods) can be used to import or export data stored on the hard disk. If the data you seek however is calculated on the fly and displayed in a report, you would then want to write the report to a file then import the file into a spread sheet or other program to manipulate it.

Thanks for the replies.

I don't know anything about Revelation. I don't have the disks, and there is no file named porter.

I can get into TCL, but I am lost once I am there. I am converting an application and cannot get any technical info from the vendor. (After all, what incentive do they have?)

I was hoping there was an ODBC driver, or some similar tool.

Thanks again.

Your best bet would be to contract with a Revelation developer/consultant to export the data for you. Since you have no familiarity with Revelation and you probably don't understand the multi-value architecture, this will be a significant challenge for you without assistance.

You can go to the Developer Network area for company references or you can post a help wanted message on the classifieds.

To be fair, Revelation is 15+ years old so no .. no odbc (of course event RTI's new products don't have odbc .. this is a captured environment:-)

So .. there have been a couple of threads recently about conversion tools available. Try a search. The only other options are write a routine yourself (not hard but you do need to be familiar with the data structures) or contract the data conversion out.

Also some of us (me me me :-) make a living out of conversions and other necessities for RTI products.

If you want to discuss the conversion of data give me a call or Email me.
