I have Novel1 3.12 and AREV 3.12 running WIN98 work stations. When I print to a network printer from a basic program, the print job seems to sit in WIN98 spooling for more than 1.5 minutes. When I execute a TCL "setprinter" command but dont even change the printer settings the spooling stops and printing starts.

I believe the problem is with WIN98 and not in the capture settings within Novell. I have set the printer options to print directly to the printer with no change.

Question:

What does AREV send to WIN95 to end the spooling process. The spooling also stops if I change printers.

The printer display is as follwows while spooling:

LPT3 CATCH (NWREDIR) spooling

If there are any printer experts I would appreciate a solution.

Thanks

This is not an answer, just another data point.

The Microsoft support hotline has some articles about problems with print servers.

The articles are not very helpful, (though one talks about running out of named pipes – conflict with NLM or NT serivce perhaps?),

except to suggest the problem is not Arev / OI specific.

In particular, there is an article about printing from windows Nt to Netware 3.12,

and one about excessive use of CPU time while print spooling in NT4.0.

Try http://support.microsoft.com . Search for Q163228, Q182333, or just "slow printing"

Hope this helps.
