"Error writing to Sort file" is a program error message, NOT an AREV error message.
You need to look at the code that generates this message to see exactly which operation has failed.
The cause might depend on the name and location of the file that the system is trying to create.
One possible problem is insufficient file handles. The default is 8. To increase this, on each workstation, add the line FILES=150 to C:\CONFIG.SYS or C:\ …… \CONFIG.NT (Can't remember exactly where it is located) for Windows NT

Ensure that your sort path is not set to a root directory, and that you have less than 2.1 gB free on the AREV.EXE drive.

This error message is generated when AREV is creating a report and need to "page out" information to disk. It attempts to write to the sort file location specified in the environment. If Dos/Windows denies access you get this message. Go to the environment menu and check te sort file location to see you are not pointed to a non-existent network drive or something.
