I have a client running our AREV application on Novell 6.

The network PCs are running Windows 98.

The application runs on AREV 2.03 with the "All networks" driver installed.

The problem is that after several hours of use, error messages such as "QUICKDEX.MFS cannot be executed because it has not been cataloged" and "Read error in the operating system file REV46001", pop up on the screen and force the user to re-start the program.

Any suggestions?

I'd suspect an out of MS-DOS memory condition on the desktop. Is EMS enabled and available and limited to 4096MB? Also, sometimes network latency time will give a similar error. Is any anti-virus software loaded on the desktop or server which is scanning .OV and .LK files on open??

One of my clients gets the same type of error on their S/Web servers, however these are running on Netware 3.x with the NLM and Win98 workstations with the Novell Client32 v3.31.

I was able to reduce the number of this error (almost always on a MFS program) but not eliminate it. What I did:

1) Optimized the workstations for EMS

2) Changed NLM parameters for retry etc as suggested by Sprezz & RTI.

3) Upgraded to Client32 v.3.31

4) Played around with advanced setting for Client32

None of the changes seemed to have a dramatic effect on reducing the error. They just seemed to drop off over time on its own.

If the problem is network latency, how can I fix it?

How can I determine if network latency is the problem?
