We have been attempting to implement NLM 5.0 on our Novell Netware 5.1 SP3 Servers, however our attempts have been unsuccessfully. The files are currently being stored on NSS (i.e. VOL1).

I was wondering if any one out there has successfully implemented NLM 5.0 and Netware 5.1 SP3 w/NSS mounted Volumes?

Software Product: AREV 2.12

Workstations: DOS 6.21/6.22, Windows 95/98/NT/2000

Server Model: IBM Netfinity X Series 350

The Errors I Get:

Error occurs when multiple (more than one) workstations attempt to access the same file.

At Workstation Boot Up, we'll get a "Can't execute a program because the program has not been cataloged"… The program(s) are cataloged.

Occasionally, just to add spice to my life, we'll get a file error to a file that doesn't exist… (For example, Fatal Error Reading FS481 OROV\DCCS\BILLING\REV510001.PR, Linear Hash Client/Server - Server File Open Error. File name REV510001.PR…)

The Little I know:

NLM_Stats reveals nothing (The FS481 error seems to occur before the "secondary" workstation(s) attempts to access the file… not during. Which means as far as the NLM_Stats is concerned the "secondary" workstation is not making an attempt to access the errant file.)

TTS doesn't run on NSS so that's out… right?

None of my volumes are greater the 12.

My plea:

Any suggestions, even the obvious, would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

We've copied our Arev Product to a Traditional Volume in one of our Novell Netware 5.1 Service Pack 3 test server and thus far it appears to be working… So it's definitely looking like a NSS Volume w/ Service Pack 3 - Revelation NLM 5.0 issue. (NSS Volume w/ Service Pack 1a works fine).

My Network Development group is strongly opposed to moving our Arev Product to a Traditional Volume and we have to install Service Pack 3 to all of my data centers…

Any suggestions, would be greatly appreciated!

For S&G…

Revelation was able to successfully test AREV 2.12 on a NSS Volume SP3. Revelation was also kind enough to provide their Server Configuration. There is no significant differences between both Anacomp and Revelation Server configs….

Novell Error Message we are getting (note, this only occurs when more than one user is accessing the same file) - Netware Error No 136, which, according to Novell, could either mean

FFFFFF7D=DSERR_INVALID_FILE_HANDLE or

FFFFFF78=DSERR_NO_SEARCH_PRIVILEGE

My question are:

Does anyone know,

1) the low level definition of these error messages?

2) What is the cause of this type of error?

3) Why this error is occurring when more than one workstation is accessing the same file?

4) How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll of a Tootsie Roll Pop?

We are currently at an impasse… any help would be appreciated.

I'll respond just so you know someone read your posting.

Can't help you tho.

Have you reviewed file rights, sharing, ownership

all the stuff that changed from Novell 3.11 …

.. where my experience stands at present.

Regards

Tony

Tony,

Thanks for responding! Sorry it took a while to get back to you though.

Rights look good.

All AREV files are RW SH

Ownership looks good… Owner - Admin : CX - Anacomp

At least I know I'm not alone.

Again Thanks!

Tony
