Attempt to do a search for item which is off the visible window and the page does not scroll to the found item. Goto line number fails to work eas well. I have checked database for signs of this with others and their answers do not solve the problem. Only occurred after buying a new PC with Windows Millenium. I have an NEC LCD1525V screen and a standard PS/2 mouse. Any takers on this?

Hi Leigh
We had this problem when one of us installed a wheel mouse on his workstation. Even when you unplugged the wheel mouse and used a regular two button mouse (with the associated rebooting to make it pay attention), searches and scrolling in system editor didn't work any more.
Eventually I uninstalled all the mouse drivers and then re-installed a really plain boring mouse driver off the win 95 cd. You might be able to find an old mouse driver on a floppy disk that you could use.
Maybe (pure speculation here), Win2000 standard mouse has the wheel mouse api handles in it and this breaks the OI scroll/search system. Or maybe there was a wheel mouse installed on your system. Check control panel | System | device manager
Click on the mouse icon in there and make sure you have only one mouse driver installed and it isn't a wheel mouse or variation on that theme.
Maybe one day REV/WIN WIN will bring out an update for System editor that will be compatible with the wheel mouse, although I find that Sys editor scrolling considerably better behaved than MS word. As long as I stay away from wheel mice.

The system is using a Standard PS/2 mouse driver, but I suspect that it has the wheel API as you suggested. I installed an old mouse driver WHICH COMPLETELY HUNG THE SYSTEM as the SYSTEM.INI file then contained MSCVMD.386 and other references which caused the system to crash. Had to go into Safe Mode and remove all references to mouse stuff and reboot. It appears the Windows ME wants its own drivers.

I suppose the question is Leigh:-
Is anyone out there using Win ME and NOT having trouble with the editor?
