This does not have anything specifically to do with AREV but with Windows98 SE. Have come upon a situation where is lpt2 or lpt3 is not attached to a local printer or assigned to a network printer with the Novell capture command or the Windows 2000 net use command, any print directed to lpt2 or lpt3 disappears without issueing a fault message writing to the lpt port. Lpt1 responds to the error message.

The print can be issued from a dos prompt or within an arev program.

On windows 2000 or windows xp sending print to lpt2 or lpt3 will respond with an error message is the port is not directed to a network printer or a local printer.

Does anyone know of any setup changes that will cause lpt2 or lpt3 to issue the write fault message.

thanks

Ken,

If memory serves that's just the way Win98 is. I'm certain Steve Smith can offer a solution if one actually exists, but our experience has been that information being dumped to a port without a printer or queue attached to it just gets lost in the big bit bucket in the sky.
