Printing to lpt2 or lpt3 (Networking Products)

On windows 2000 or windows xp sending print to lpt2 or lpt3 will respond with an error message is the port is not directed to a network printer or a local printer.
Does anyone know of any setup changes that will cause lpt2 or lpt3 to issue the write fault message.

If memory serves that's just the way Win98 is. I'm certain Steve Smith can offer a solution if one actually exists, but our experience has been that information being dumped to a port without a printer or queue attached to it just gets lost in the big bit bucket in the sky.
