I have a customer who is running and Openinsight application with windows 9x workstations on a NT 4.0 Server with service pack 5. When customer is using the all network driver the performane of the workstations, network, and application comes to a terrible drag. But when customer switches to the byte range locking inside the application everything run as expected. I have checked customer's environment and they are set up correctly. Can anyone help me with this issue.

Kim,

You did not mention if the customer is running the NT Service. If not then this is where the best performance increase is going to happen. Also, the NT Service is the only supported network product for the configuration you are citing.

Don, yes they are running the NT Service but, when they try to use the ALL Network driver with it it then slows down.

Kim,

First, just to make sure we are on the same page, the All Networks Driver is necessary to use with the NT Service. In other words, the NT Service will not function unless you are also using the All Networks Driver.

Second, if you are experiencing this type of drag with the All Networks Driver then I would suspect that the NT Service is not running or installed properly. One quick way to verify is to add a REVPARAM file to all your folders with linear hash files in them. There should be a line in this file that reads: SERVERONLY=1

OpenInsight will then complain if the NT Service is not functioning. If you are able to get into OpenInsight with the REVPARAM files in place then I would check the network configuration on each workstation to make sure they are running minimal protocals. FYI, we have 5 workstations running OI and AREV all day long. Our workstations are Win98 and the server is NT. The speed is great when the NT Service is running but rather slow when it isn't.
