REVG and Windows NT4 (Service Pack 6) (AREV Specific)

I'm carring out some test with REVG on a Windows NT 4 Workstation (SP6).
REVG actually load (I have NO NETWORKS set) but I'm finding that after a few minutes the station runs very slowly under Windows NT mode.
Using the Task Manager I'm finding that process NTVDM.EXE is taking up 99% of resources.
Has anyone encountered similar problems ????

This is a common problem with REVG (and to some extent AREV as well). REVG's input processor sits on the timer looking for keystrokes. The older DOS video drivers are also a bad actor. In the shortcut for REV-G, make sure that all EMS, XMS, DPMI, and Uses High Memory Area are disabled. Make sure that the CONFIG.NT has a FILES=200 in it. It is probably better to run it full screen than to virtualize text in a graphics window. You're lucky that you can run it at all since I've seen a lot of conflicts between other NT desktop items and REV/AREV, particularly with some NT service packs.

In addition, set the idle sensitivity slider in the misc tab of the PIF properties all the way to the right.
Perhaps Steve Smith will write a REV G version of yield()/CPUPlus.
Main system slowdown on NT I've noticed is sometimes NTVDM will allocate as much as 32Meg'oRAM and slow downs are due to disk accessing when NT goes virtual.

There is a version of CPUPLUS for REVG available. This will reduce REVG's CPU utilization under Windows NT.

We've heard very positive things about Steve Smith's CPU-PLUS utilities to help DOS based Rev users under NT. Check out his stuff at http://www.state-of-the-art.com.au. We have no hesitation in recommending both Steve and his work. The guy redefines genius.

Steve,
I visited your web site as recommended by the Spressatura Group, but it was not clear from the index which utilities are for RevG applications under NT. Most appear to be for AREV under Novell. Help guide me through the site.
By the way, nice job.

That's all the redefinition of genius you'll need in Steve's case.

Tom,
You are correct - many of the utilities arose with AREV and Novell. However, all of the utilities are object-compatible with REVG, and
the first work on CPU-PLUS was done on REVG over 12 months ago. It was only when I realised the greater implications of controlling Windows NT timeslicing that I bundled CPUPLUS for general consumption.
