Still getting GFE's and the system is s l o w to say the least - works fine with only one person on the system but it is set up for 5 users and with 2 on it corrupts files and slows dowdn - even loading the system is slow. The one parameter Serveronly=1 which I was told to setup does not even allow us to get into the system

You don't need ServerOnly=1. That's only required when you are using the NT Service, which you are not.
As for the speed of the system, sounds like there might be a file handle issue or Lantastics version of sharing.
Make sure all workstations are accessing the files from the same mapped drive and path, so they all should be using the R drive.
