Touch screens and PC keyboards (AREV32)

(Apologies if this appears twice - had a hiccup in the post)
Does anyone in the forum have experience with touch screen interfaces (e.g. Android, Windows 8) and old-style applications, such as those written in Arev or RevG?
For example, I got a Rev G app running in the cloud under 2x. As an experiment, I accessed it using a Samsung smart phone (Samsung Glide). Worked pretty well with the Android 2x connector… But, I realized that arrow keys, function keys, even the all-important Escape key were not readily available. Which I should have realized beforehand, but oh well.
2x does of course provide soft versions of these in the touch screen if you go through some gyrations - and some of the Glide's physical keyboard worked OK too. So it's possible to operate apps "unchanged" this way - and I guess I could always just add a USB keyboard if I had no other choice. But, I would prefer to be able to use a soft keyboard, and I found the soft keyboard 2x created to be cumbersome.
Does anyone in the forum have any experience with 3rd party soft keyboards like this? I expect this'll be a bigger issue as more and more users attempt to access apps that used to run on desktops only using mobile devices. Are there other approaches to use?
