I have a real issue with the NT Service v1.5
Everyone I've talked to (read that as all the Revsoft documentation and representatives) imply that installing the NT Service is easy and works first time.
NOWHERE does the NT Service Installation documentation does it tell me to..
1. Ensure I am logged in as the Administrator when I install Server Side
2. Ensure I have "shared" the \Revsoft\NTService folder on the Server and that it has a "SYSTEM" user with Full Rights (Tracy Graves 06/97)
3. That the NT Service will slow down to hell unless I remove all but the Netbuei protocol (NT Service Tech Note)
I have to install the NT Service, have the damndest of a time trying to troubleshoot symptoms such as:
- Trying to start the NT Service on the Server after I installed it to a "different" folder than the default and get an "access denied" message, because I wasn't logged in as the Administrator.
- FS1030 errors when trying to log in to my app
(Shared \Revsoft\NTService folder fixed that)- Disgustingly slow login times
(Don't know what will fix that yet..)I mean with the NLM, the improvement was instantaneous and totally expected.
WHY doesn't Revsoft include these documents in the package with the NT service disks etc ???? Prepare a comprehensive troubleshooting guide and include it with the disks. Be honest about the issues that MAY affect our installs. The guys who install and never open the troubleshooting guide will have won the lottery because they won't have to waste the amount of time I'm about to waste trying to find the TWEAK required to make this "leading edge" product work.
Can (will) anybody help with their experiences. I know it will be useful, even if only to me.
Many thanks
Tony
It would certainly
