I have a client with the NLM loaded, and they have switched all the lan workstations to a Citrix connection. Do they need to purchase and load the All Networks Driver now? The speed of Arev is now twice as slow and some print jobs print about 5 lines per 30 seconds and take 6 hours now compared to 10 mins.

Dave,

Can you give me a better description of your configuration? That is, was AREV moved off of the Novell server onto a Citrix server or is the Citrix server acting as a client against the Novell server?

Dave, this is related to CPU usage - running Task Manager on your server will confirm this.

The best solution we've been able to achieve is to get the total server CPU usage down to around 60% average for 25 users or so on a dual processor Pentium Citrix server. This fixes most of the performance issues.

The list of server and AREV tuning steps can be quite extensive (over 20 steps in all). Contact us for further details.

Arev is still on the Novell server. Citrix server is a PIII 1.2 Mhz with 2gig of memory on Win2k Sp2 using XPe citrix.

Dave,

I was going to suggest what Sprezz already has so I refer you to them. Also keep in mind that there may be problems related to the network driver and other configuration issues that cause Win2000/XP machines to run AREV slowly over a Novell network. There are several posts on this board that discuss this. (BTW, what were the workstation's OS when running the LAN?)

You will not need the All Networks Driver or the NT Service. The NLM is still much better than the All Networks Driver for Novell networks and the NT Service is strictly for applications running locally on an NT-based server.

One of the key things is to get the correct Novell client on the Citrix server. If you are running W2K on Citrix box then use 4.83SP1.

The CPU issue is a bit of a red herring. Run any AREV/ OI16bit app on any W2K box and you will see CPU performance jump to 100%. Whilst you can use tools such as those from AppSense to control this in fact the problem is that one session will still try to steal 100% of available CPU according to the Performance Monitor graphs.

There are lots of setup issues to configure with the various Rev products and Citrix. You'll be pleased to hear that the most complex of these is Arev and Novell!! Email me for more info.
