I have a client that is using a dedicated indexer on Arev 2.12 running on Novel 3.11. For about two months they have been using ArcServe for Netware by Cheyanne v-6.1 They have been doing their backups while Arev is still active.
They have not had any real data coruption; however, on their indexer they are frequently getting phantom GFEs (Fatal Error Messages that do not show up when doing an Lh_verify or reoccure) they occure on the indexer during backup. What are the possible negative consequences of continuing with these unattended backups. Are they safe? Does anyone have any advice about using ArcServe?

The absolute safest thing to do is to is to have all
PCs logged out during the backup. This will prevent GFEs.

You really should have workstations logged off during backups.
We have a dedicated indexer that runs a post indexing subroutine that has been programmed to suspend the workstation at 1 OR 2 separate times each day. On the suspend, a wakeup time is fed to a batch file that runs a freeware utility that pauses the PC until the wakeup time. When the time is reached processing returns to Revelation.
There are other ways to do it.
