I am a network manager at a software company that uses AREV heavily. I upgraded to faster servers this summer, from HP 133 to HP LCII 300's. Three of the servers had the 1.12 NLM on them. When we first upgraded to the new servers, I had to also upgrade CLIB, Streams and a bunch of NLM's to support the new PCI architecture for Novell 4.1 in the form of various Patches. Started having problems with server Lockups and 100% utilizations for 10 to 20 minutes. Also had the the indexer process corrupt files when the lockups and 100% utilizations occur. Upgraded the AREV NLM to 1.5 Still having the problems. Anyone else seen this with Novell 4.1?

We have a proprietary Advance revelation system and last year when we moved to Novell v4.1X and upgraded the hardware, we started having similar problems with high utilization as well as server Abends. Our system would totally lock up the advance revelation and the only way to get out of it was to down the server. Which cause other problems because we had mirror harddrives.

Our systems manager was on the Novell CNE page and found that people were also having 100% utilization as well and found that they like we had an Adaptec Controller using the AIC 7870 driver which was new. We moved it back to version date of 12-5-95. We have not had any problems with high utilization or locking or even corrupt GFE files since then. The server now has been up for 160 days. Which is a twist from a 2 week pattern that had emerged.

I hope this helps!

I am experiencing a problem that looks very similar to this one at a clients site running Novell 3.12 with NLM 1.5.

Could this really be the same problem?
