Imagine all the cool graphs and groovy things we could produce in OIPI that could be incorporated into an HTML page if we could use OIPI to create .JPG files, instead of just .PDF files.

Of course, OIPI would have to be capable of working through OECGI, so that would be another hurdle.

Just a thought. Anyone else think it would be useful?

it would be nice but i would rather see a good control (or all the calling info for a control) that would do it.

OIPI is doing a lot of stuff and i would prefer to see it become more robust with what it currently does.

If there was a seperate tool that did the graphing/graphics it would probably make it more 'useful'.

Believe me I want OI to do everything i need it to do .. and some stuff that i don't even know that i want it to do. But not all in 1 routine .

One thing i think the rti guys try to keep in mind is portability. Now that they support linux as well and windows portability is a big concern.

Way easier to use small square *.jpg files (or even gifs) of set size and color, and then concatenate them in an HTML table structure to make your graph. You can construct these images using mspaint.exe. More HTML is needed per graph, but it's simplerr than writing *.jpg files, whose internal format is (a) confusing (b) shrouded in the mystical sands of proprietary licences and © is data compressed.

jpg is no longer proprietary ..

I've helped a client continue to be paperless by using OIPI to create a pdf file, then we process it into a .GIF file using pdf2image from verypdf. .JPG files are also an option. See http://www.verypdf.com/pdf2tif/pdf-to-image.html

These GIF files are then attached to the proper account and can be printed at any time, again with OIPI, or embedded in html for viewing.

Incoming faxes are also changed from .TIFF to .PDF, then to .GIF so that they are attached to the proper accounts.

What do you use to receive \ send faxes?

The brother 420CN has associated software for automating sending and receiving faxes without standing there and putting paper into the machine, or taking paper out of the machine.

JPG is not an appropriate choice for graphs. Graphs are better rendered as GIFs or PNGs. The JPG format was designed to approximate images with continuous tones, like photographs.

For vector graphics, a nice library I found for javascript is available here.

Look also at their other stuff. It seems to be very well conceived and built.

Hi DSig

Thanks for your response, but I have to say I care to differ. I am using OIPI to produce graphs of all sorts. All the infrastructure is already in place for programming anything. Why would you want to duplicate that functionality elsewhere? Doesn't make sense to me. All you need is another export option - .jpg instead of .pdf.

Thats my two pennies worth anyways…

Hi Victor

Ok, you pursuaded me. I think OIPI should have a .gif or .png export option.

Cheers

I put a note on the works side .. thought this thread was there .. but hmm

I actually would hate to see too much added to OIPI more cleaned up and sped up ..

There are routines available out there that can do what you want done ..

like FinePrint

there are others .. this is the one we will be evaluating as it does a lot more that we *think* we need
