I am starting to move an application from ARev to Open Insight with varying degrees of success. Like most ARev developers I used an Index Lookup incorporated in the Data Validation in the Screen prompts and a Outpou conversion routine which did an Xlate to pick up the text for the entered code. Would someone please give some clues on how to do this in OI. The existing IndexLookup with its separate screen seems a backward step. I have tried attaching it to a LOSTFOCUS but the prompt has moved on. Is there a way of finding the Previous Focus. I think I have seen it before, but can't find it now.

Help please.

Also is there an ASCII Export built into OI similar to Arev

Thanks

John,

To be flippant there is no ASCII Export in OI because in Windows the character set used is ANSI and not ASCII, but the real answer is no. But I'm sure lots of people must have developed their own export functions by now, and it'd be nice if some of them came forward and offered their programming to others.

I have made a special export function myself, that can export a mixture of static strings and fields (also symbolics), so it might be used for outputting coded data, e.g, html (perhaps with some modifications to make certain no empty fields are exported). It exports multivalues, or even AMVs, with one (set of) value(s) per line. The export is done according to a configuration file (a text file).

Now - what else is there out there? (Apart from the truth, that is. )

We too have an Export utility developed and marketed to look and work similar to OI's Import tool, but with a more advanced UI. It also exports multi-value fields with whatever delimiter you choose and works against save lists as well (if specified.)

E-mail me if you want more information.

I would suggest doing the IndexLookup in a script .. then on the return item get the data, xlate and set_property.

John,

I have used the data warehousing feature with an ODBC driver to a text file to do ASCII exports. It isn't as fast as just writing it directly out though.
