I am currently in discussion with a worldwide client of ours re the possibility of providing a front end to SAP / R3, as SAP is a pain and not as flexible as OI of course.
Has anyone out there had any experience with SAP /R3 or know where I can start to look at it.
Any feedback will be welcomed, maybe it will lead to replacing the current SAP systems.!!!!!
Thanks

We interfaced to a SAP system for Penguin Books. All done via FTP though so perhaps not as flexible as your client would like.

Are you talking about interfacing with the language or the database?

Gerry,
(a) SAP is vast. No one person understands it all. This will make progress slow.
(b) all data is effectively date stamped to enable full rollback and recovery - so there is a BEGDA and ENDDA (data items for beginning and end dates) on many records.
© all the field names are German acronyms.
(d) there are add-in libraries for VB which can be used.
(e) most of the configuration chores for SAP will mean you can't simply sit down at the terminal and start coding - you'll need full access and developer access privileges to interface, and you'll need some help from configuration people and ABAPpers.
(f) You may have some joy using the Web browser interface to SAP and the OpenInsight 7.1 web access features to read data into OI.
Good luck,
Steve

Thanks Steve,
I know it will take some time and we are looking at the feasability at the moment.
