We're getting a strange error at one site (OI 3.7.0 - Win 2000 workstation and server). If the machine crashes and is rebooted the user gets an error they next time they log into the application:

FS415 - cannot select on SYSLOGINS - lock is held by another user.

The user can go to a different machine and log into the application.

The server does not have any open files and does not have any reference to the users last connection.

The only way we have found to fix the problem is to restart the Windows 2000 NT Service. This gets difficult as there are up to 10 users in the system, so they all have to log out while this is done. Is there any other way to clear these locks out of the Service or avoid the problem?

Paul,

While we don't get the error you are describing, we get a similar problem with our OI applications running on a Citrix server. This is because everyone is logging in with the same Application name, OI username, and Workstation ID (and this is because we use our own security login system).

Our solution was to lock @STATION against SYSLISTS and check this lock in a routine called from the ENV_ record in the SYSENV table. If a lock already exists we then create a custom Station ID by appending a counter until there is no lock. This approach should resolve your problem as well.

Thanks, we'll try that out.

This solution will allow the user to log in, but we have had cases of the original entry staying in the SYSLOGINS table. The site later runs into problems with reaching their maximum user count too soon.

We're using the new TCP/IP driver (our first site to do so). Is there any know issue with this running with OI 3.7.0 (we're using the thunking driver for OI 16-bit).
