I have a client running rev g on a 2k server that has begun to experience so strange situations. Note: the system has run extremely well for the last year or so.

Environment, 2000 server with win98 & terminal server connections

Using computer mgmt on the 2k server

1)rev.exe is showing 29 times and revg has a 36 user limit however Rev returns the fact that too many users are logged in.

How can I get a good count of how the licences are being consummed

2)Again using computer mgmt We occassionaly see a ROS*.LNK file or two that are flagged read only. when this occurs revelation appears to lockup on selects & lists

Thanks in advance, Rich

Are you calling it from a batch file that loads memfix.exe before rev.exe?

Have their been any hardware changes?

no new server hardware. some new workstations are being installed to replace older pc's, one particular pc would trash large records (30k+) at least once a week(probably nic card related). memfix is not used.

The client is checking to make sure norton AV is not scanning for .lnk files.

I tend to think something has changed in the background probably by the network guys. This setup has run exceptionally well for the last 9 months. The read-only opens started about a month ago.

Could the server backup software be setting those files to read-only if they are open during backup?

Check with the network guys to see if they made any changes to the server backups.

actually the server initiated backup started about a month ago. before that it was being done off-site thru the internet and to a workstation. Note: internet & workstation backups are still being done at different times.

However when looking at open files the same file will be write+read for 99% of the users and the 1% is read only, and the read only setting seems to float from user to user randomly depending on which way the wind is blowing

If individual file restores are performed from backup and the backup is read-only media (CD), on Windows 98 workstations this converts the files to read-only.

no cd restores are performed. it is just random that some users show files opened as read not write+read

Also the other morning after a server reboot I cranked up dos sessions until I hit the too many user error. Rev displays 36 users but I maxed out at 33. This system has been bumped from an orignal 16 user license by increments of 5, so it appears I've lost 3 licenses someplace. I've emailed Rev but havent heard back from them

Thanks, Rich
